MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641096861 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on August 11, 2026, for Ai-Integrated Digital Twin System For Urban Waste Forecasting And Collection Optimisation.
Inventors include Ezhilmaran Devarasan; and Sneha Baskaran.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT AI-INTEGRATED DIGITAL TWIN SYSTEM FOR URBAN WASTE FORECASTING AND COLLECTION OPTIMISATION A solid waste management system (100) comprises a data repository (102) storing historical municipal waste generation records, bin identifiers with storage capacities, geographical coordinates of each waste bin (126), and weather parameters; a preprocessing module (104) validating and transforming the stored records; a forecasting module (106) generating short-term bin fill-level predictions and long-term waste generation forecasts; a digital twin engine (108) adjusting each short-term prediction by a climate adjustment factor derived from ambient temperature and daily rainfall; a prioritisation module (110) identifying waste bins (126) exceeding a collection threshold and computing predicted waste mass; a fleet module (112) computing minimum collection vehicles (128) from aggregate predicted waste mass and vehicle payload capacity; a route optimisation module (114) clustering identified waste bins (126) into payload-feasible clusters, assigning each cluster to a collection vehicle (128), and sequencing waste bins (126) by nearest-neighbour heuristic using great-circle distances; and an output interface (116) transmitting optimised routes for deployment of the collection vehicles (128).
