MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641093683 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on August 03, 2026, for Ai-Integrated Smart Toothbrush For Oral Microbiome Monitoring.

Inventors include Dr Madhana Priya N; Dr. Raghul Murugan; and Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart oral healthcare device comprising a toothbrush integrated with one or more biosensors and a bioinformatics-driven analytical system for real-time monitoring of oral health. The device is configured to detect salivary biomarkers, including physicochemical parameters, microbial metabolites, and specific oral microbiome signatures, during routine tooth brushing. The biosensor module embedded within the toothbrush head generates signal data corresponding to the detected biomarkers, which is transmitted via a wireless communication interface to an external computing device. The transmitted data is processed using a bioinformatics and machine learning-based algorithm trained on oral microbiome datasets to evaluate and predict the risk of dental conditions, including but not limited to dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. The system provides a quantified oral health score and personalized preventive or therapeutic recommendations through a user interface. The invention enables non-invasive, continuous, and user-friendly monitoring of oral health, facilitating early detection and management of dental diseases. The proposed device integrates hardware and computational analysis into a single platform, thereby transforming a conventional toothbrush into a diagnostic and preventive healthcare tool with applications in personalized dentistry and telehealth systems.
