MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521086209 A) filed by Pandit Deendayal Energy University on September 11, 2025, for Ai-Powered Crop Stress Detection System Based On Leaf Micro-Movement Analysis For Automated Irrigation Control.
Inventors include Dr. Yogesh Kumar; and Dr. Nandini Modi.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses an AI-powered crop stress detection system designed to identify early plant stress conditions by analyzing subtle leaf micro-movements and automatically controlling irrigation. The system includes a high-resolution camera (1) mounted on a camera mounting stand (2) to continuously capture video footage of plant leaves. The captured video stream is transmitted to a processing unit (3) where preprocessing and optical flow based motion extraction techniques detect pixel-level leaf movements including vibration, angular deviation, and tremor patterns. The processing unit (3) further employs artificial intelligence models including neural network architectures such as CNN, LSTM, or hybrid CNN-LSTM models to classify plant conditions into Healthy, Early Stress, or Severe Stress categories. Environmental parameters collected from an environmental sensing unit (5) are integrated with motion features to improve stress prediction accuracy. Based on the classified stress condition, the processing unit (3) activates an irrigation actuator system (4) to deliver water through mechanisms such as drip irrigation or precision spraying. A user interface device (6) provides a dashboard displaying plant health status, irrigation activity, and system alerts. The invention enables early stress detection, automated irrigation control, improved water-use efficiency, and enhanced crop productivity through real-time Al-based plant monitoring. Figure -1
