Abstract: This invention relates to an intelligent system based on deep learning for automatic identification of research gaps in academic literature. This invention includes using data extracted from academic literature sources such as bibliographic information, keywords, citations etc. The system utilizes a hybrid deep learning model which is based on topic modeling networks and citation graph neural networks in order to perform extraction and analysis of various features including thematic features, contextual features and relational features allowing precise identification of thoroughly researched, partially researched and inadequately researched topics. The system can be hosted on cloud computing infrastructure providing scalability, near real-time processing capability and minimal computation load on the user device. Additionally, the adaptive learning mechanism ensures that the model is continually updated based on new publications, new terminology and changing research trends. The invention includes automatically sending alerts and notifications to the appropriate researchers or other relevant parties about promising research directions. The evaluation shows that there are substantial improvements in precision and robustness of the method compared to the traditional keyword search or literature reviews.
