Abstract: The present invention relates to an adaptive Software Defined Networking (SDN)-based Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) detection and mitigation system (100). The system (100) comprises a network traffic acquisition module configured to receive live or simulated network traffic, a preprocessing module configured to perform feature extraction, categorical encoding, numerical alignment, and feature normalization, and an adaptive optimization module configured to optimize machine learning hyperparameters using an Iteration Varying Sine Cosine Algorithm. The system (100) further comprises an ensemble detection module including an Extreme Gradient Boosting model, an Artificial Neural Network model, and a Convolutional Neural Network-Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory model configured to generate individual traffic classifications. A decision module performs majority voting to determine a final classification, and a mitigation module generates corresponding network control commands. The system (100) further includes a monitoring module configured to maintain attack history and administrative information.
