MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641085402 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on July 13, 2026, for An Aerodynamic Wind Turbine Blade With An Integrated Trailing -Edge Flap.
Inventors include Dr. P. Ramkumar; S Kavinkumar; Abhishek R Matade; Cherukuri Kiran Kumar; Deepanshu Rai; and Yashwanth S.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The titled invention discloses a wind turbine blade comprising a wind turbine blade (1), a blade root mounting section (2), a blade lip section (3), an aerodynamic blado body (4), an integrated trailing-edge flap (5). a flap hinge portion (6), a flap supporting member (7), a leading edge (8), a trailing edge (9), and an airflow guiding surface (10). The integrated trailing-edge flap (5) is mounted along the trailing edge (9) of the aerodynamic blade body (4) through the flap hinge portion (6) and is reinforced by the flap supporting member (7). The airflow guiding surface (10) maintains smooth airflow over the aerodynamic blade body (4) to improve lift generation and reduce aerodynamic drag. The integrated trailing-edge flap (5) modifies the effective aerodynamic profile to delay airflow separation and reduce wake formation during operation. The blade root mounting section (2) transfers aerodynamic loads to the rotor hub while the blade tip section (3) minimizes aerodynamic losses. The structural arrangement improves wind energy extraction, reduces vibration, lowers mechanical loading, and enhances operational stability under varying wind conditions. The invention provides an efficient wind turbine blade having improved aerodynamic performance and extended service life.
