Abstract: AN AI-BASED INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC MONITORING, PREDICTION AND ADAPTIVE SIGNAL CONTROL SYSTEM UTILIZING NETWORKED SMART LIGHTING INFRASTRUCTURE The disclosed AI-based intelligent traffic monitoring, prediction and adaptive signal control system using networked smart lighting infrastructure is disclosed. A plurality of lighting units as distributed sensing nodes perform local edge pre-processing of vehicle data, including buffering, duplicate removal and short-term caching, to reduce communication overhead. The pre-processed data is received by the central control unit 101 and further processed by an AI prediction engine 210 using a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network for sequential traffic prediction. The adaptive traffic signal controller (305) adaptively allocates the lane-wise green signal duration as per the multi-variable weighted congestion score. Additionally, an emergency vehicle priority system comprising an AI priority routing engine (406) and a green corridor generation module (408) creates automated green corridors and an inter-junction coordination system including a cross-junction prediction engine (507) calculates queue spillback probability to proactively coordinate neighboring intersections. The system greatly decreases the traffic congestion in the city, increases the efficiency of signals and strengthens automatic emergency response networks.
