Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent career guidance platform, Career Compass, designed to provide personalized recommendations for hackathons, workshops, courses, and career opportunities using advanced machine learning techniques. Unlike conventional systems that rely on static filtering or generic recommendation mechanisms, the proposed system integrates a hybrid recommendation architecture combining content-based filtering, natural language processing (NLP), and gradient boosting models, specifically leveraging CatBoost for high-accuracy ranking and prediction. The system introduces a novel skill-gap-aware feature representation, where user skills are compared against required opportunity skills to generate a structured gap vector. This vector is used as an input to the gradient boosting model to predict not only relevance but also user readiness for a given opportunity. Additionally, the system incorporates explainable AI techniques to provide transparent recommendations, along with adaptive feedback learning to continuously refine predictions based on user interaction. The platform also supports geo- contextual visualization and real-time notifications, thereby forming a comprehensive and intelligent career navigation ecosystem.
