Abstract: ABSTRACTION The Smart Traffic Signal Management System for Urban Congestion is designed to address the increasing problem of traffic congestion in modern cities caused by rapid urbanization and the growing number of vehicles. Traditional traffic signal systems operate on fixed time intervals, which are not efficient under dynamic traffic conditions. This project proposes an intelligent and adaptive solution that utilizes real-time data to control traffic signals effectively. The system employs computer vision techniques with a YOLO-based algorithm to detect and count vehicles from live video feeds captured through surveillance cameras at intersections. Based on the traffic density, the signal timings are dynamically adjusted to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduced waiting time for vehicles. The system is developed using Python for processing and analysis, while MongoDB is used for storing traffic data, and AWS cloud services enable remote access and scalability. This approach helps in reducing fuel consumption, minimizing environmental pollution, and improving overall road efficiency. Additionally, the system supports emergency vehicle prioritization and enhances road safety by reducing congestionrelated issues. The proposed architecture is cost-effective, scalable, and suitable for implementation in smart cities. With further advancements, such as predictive analytics using artificial intelligence, the system can be enhanced to forecast traffic patterns and optimize signal control proactively, making it a reliable solution for future urban traffic management challenges.
