MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631029705 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Silchar on March 12, 2026, for An Aluminium-Beeswax Composite Enclosure For Passive Thermal Management Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Batteries.

Abstract: The invention discloses an aluminium-beeswax composite enclosure for passive thermal management of lithium-ion batteries in unmanned aerial vehicles. The enclosure comprises an inner metallic layer (102) placed in direct thermal interface with a battery pack (108) includes micro-textured features to increase surface area and enhance heat transfer. A bio-based phase change material layer (104) is disposed radially outward within a hermetically sealed interstitial cavity defined between the inner and an outer metallic layer (106). The beeswax is dimensioned to absorb heat through controlled solid-to-liquid phase transition during high-rate discharge, and limiting peak temperature rise. Internal aluminium longitudinal ribs arranged in honeycomb geometry form thermal bridges and restrict molten wax migration. The outer layer coated with a high-emissivity surface treatment dissipates residual heat via convection and radiation while providing structural protection. The enclosure operates without active cooling components and maintains improved thermal stability under vibration and aerodynamic loading conditions.
