MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411089225 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on November 18, 2024, for An Anti-Theft Locking System For A Wheel Of A Vehicle.

Inventor includes Sandip Mohanraj.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: An anti-theft locking system (200) for a wheel of a vehicle includes a locking assembly (202) configured between wheel hub (102) and wheel rim (100), and an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) (204) that monitors status of the locking assembly (202). Locking assembly (202) comprises a casing (206), locking pins (208), sensors (210), an electromagnet (212), and springs (214). The locking pins (208) are configured with the casing (206) for movement in radial direction between a locking position, where they lock with slots (104) in the wheel, and a retracted position, where wheel can be removed from hub. The electromagnet (212), which when energized, pulls locking pins to retracted position. Springs (214) bias locking pins (208) to the locking position. The sensors (210) are used to detect unauthorized attempt to remove the wheel (100) or failure of wheel nuts, and an alert is sent to user.
