Abstract: The present invention relates to an eco-friendly soil stabilization method using cement kiln dust (CKD) for black cotton soil to improve its engineering properties for geotechnical and pavement engineering applications. The method comprises collecting and preparing black cotton soil, mixing it with a predetermined proportion of cement kiln dust, adding water to achieve the optimum moisture content, thoroughly blending the mixture, compacting it to the required density, and curing it for a specified period. During curing, hydration and pozzolanic reactions occur between the reactive constituents of cement kiln dust and the clay minerals present in the soil, resulting in the formation of cementitious compounds that improve soil strength and stability. The stabilized soil exhibits enhanced compressive strength, improved California Bearing Ratio (CBR), reduced plasticity, swelling, shrinkage, and compressibility, along with increased durability. The method promotes the beneficial utilization of cement kiln dust, an industrial by-product, thereby reducing environmental pollution and construction costs while minimizing dependence on conventional stabilizers. The stabilized soil is suitable for use in road subgrades, pavements, embankments, foundations, retaining structures, and other civil engineering applications, providing a sustainable, economical, and environmentally friendly solution for improving expansive black cotton soil.
