Abstract: ABSTRACT AN ELECTRIC-POWERED SUGARCANE HARVESTING APPARATUS FOR EFFICIENT AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS An electric-powered sugarcane harvesting apparatus (and an associated method of operation) is disclosed, designed for small and medium-scale sugarcane farming operations. The apparatus comprises a mild steel chassis supporting a four-wheel drive mechanism powered by 12 V wiper motors; a rear-wheel Ackermann steering mechanism manually actuated through a steering handle; a first electric cutting unit mounted proximate to the ground for severing the sugarcane stalk at its base; a second electric cutting unit mounted at an elevated position for simultaneously removing the top foliar portion of the stalk; a guide mechanism for receiving and aligning the severed stem; a belt conveyor system driven by a 12 V wiper motor and comprising fabricated rollers for transporting the cleaned stem rearward; a mild steel collecting bin for accumulating harvested stems; and a rechargeable battery power supply system with provision for solar photovoltaic panel integration. The apparatus further provides provision for a load cell-based real-time weight measurement system in the collecting bin. The integrated system performs simultaneous basal cutting, top-leaf removal, stem conveying, and on-machine collection in a single continuous pass, requiring only two unskilled operators, and reduces harvesting cost by approximately seventy percent compared to conventional mechanised systems. The apparatus is compact, modular, electrically powered, and operable on narrow inter-row agricultural terrain. Fig. 1
