Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION AN ELECTROSPUN SURFACE ENGINEERED PREHEAT STABILIZED POLYACRYLONITRILE SEPARATOR FOR SODIUM-ION BATTERY The present invention relates to an electrospun surface engineered preheat stabilized polyacrylonitrile separator for sodium-ion battery. The electrospun surface engineered polyacrylonitrile with wrinkles and fissures undergoes preheat stabilization till 200 °C in air/oxidative atmosphere. The electrospun surface engineered preheat stabilized polyacrylonitrile separator has carbonyl functional group along with the inherent nitrile functional group of polyacrylonitrile. The separator of the present invention exhibits higher ionic conductivity of 6.38 mS cm-1 and higher electrolyte uptake of 1152%. The separator of the present invention also shows better transference number of 0.52 (All tested for sodium ion batteries with 1M NaClO4 in EC/DEC 1:1 v/v electrolyte). The separator also exhibits higher thermal stability with no shrinkage till 200 °C.
