Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for managing a thermoelectric energy harvesting system using deep reinforcement learning. An energy management system may receive, at a plurality of time steps, state variables including at least a health indicator of an energy storage device and one or more of thermoelectric generator voltage, current, temperature gradient, battery level, buffer level, and temporal information. A trained deep reinforcement learning agent executing on one or more processors may select, from a defined action space, an energy dispatch action such as charging the storage device, charging a buffer, discharging the storage device to a load, or idling, based on the state variables. A reward signal may penalize degradation of the health indicator and energy waste and reward satisfaction of energy demand, and the agent may be trained or executed according to an energy management policy informed by the reward signal.
