Abstract: AN EXPANDABLE EXOTHERMIC REACTOR, AN APPARATUS MADE THEREFROM AND A PROCESS OF WORKING THE SAME. The invention relates to an expandable hybrid exothermic reactor designed for use within an enteral-feeding apparatus. The reactor comprises a biodegradable fan-folded chamber that expands and contracts in response to cyclic pressure variation generated by an exothermic reaction between reactants comprising calcium oxide, citric acid, calcium hydroxide, aluminium, zinc, zeolite and vermiculite. The zeolite stabilizers moderate the reaction rate and convert up to 30% of hydrogen gas into water, thereby regulating internal pressure and delaying the pressure threshold of 1.2–1.5 bar. The controlled expansion and contraction produce a pulsating action approximately once per minute, facilitating heat transfer, churning, and homogenization of feed located in adjacent chambers. The reactor operates within an apparatus including a feed chamber and a venting shaft with a pressure-regulating valve, maintaining internal temperature between 80–85 °C and external temperature between 45–55 °C. The invention also discloses the corresponding apparatus and method of cyclic operation.
