MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511023474 A) filed by British Telecommunications Public Limited Company; and Indian Institute Of Science on March 17, 2025, for An Improved Avalanche Photodiode.
Inventors include Andrew Lord; Kausik Majumdar; and Pushkar Dasika.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: There is herein described an avalanche photodiode having a gain region and an absorption region, the absorption region comprising absorption material and the gain region comprising gain material, where a bandgap of the absorption material is suitable for the absorption of photons having a wavelength in the infrared spectral band and is smaller than a bandgap of the gain material, wherein, in use, a photon in the infrared spectral band incident on the absorption region causes an electron in the absorption region to be promoted from the valence band of the absorption material to the conduction band of the absorption materialto cause avalanche breakdown in the gain region.
