MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511018544 A) filed by Quanastra Pvt. Ltd. on April 03, 2025, for An Infrared Light-Trapping Device And Amethod Of Its Fabrication For Enhanced Single-Photon Detection..

Inventor includes Vidur Raj.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: A light-trapping device (100) for enhanced single-photon detection in the near- and mid-infrared regime is disclosed. The device (100) comprises a one-dimensional photonic crystal back reflector (101) formed by 2 to 16 alternating dielectric layers of high and low- refractive-index materials, achieving broadband reflectance exceeding 98% over at least 1000 nm bandwidth, and tunable across the target spectral range by material selection and layer-thickness chirping. An ultra-thin superconducting nanowire absorber (102) of less than 10 nm thickness, patterned in a fractal geometry, is disposed over the back reflector (101). A metasurface-based anti-reflective coating (103) comprising subwavelength periodic unit cells in a metal-dielectric-metal or all-dielectric configuration is deposited over the nanowire (102), achieving less than 5% reflectance over 500 nm bandwidth through optical impedance matching. The subwavelength metasurface (103) and fractal nanowire (102) together confer substantially reduced sensitivity to polarization and angle of incidence, enabling near-unity light trapping suitable for free-space mid-infrared single-photon detection.
