Abstract: The present invention relates to an integrated system and method for mushroom cultivation using banana pseudo-stem biomass and coco peat as a composite cultivation substrate. The system utilizes agricultural residues including banana pseudo-stem, leaf sheath, petiole, midrib and bunch stem, which are cleaned and size-reduced before being mixed with coco peat and moisture to obtain a suitable mushroom-growing substrate. The prepared substrate is subjected to steam-based sterilization or pasteurization to reduce unwanted microorganisms and is subsequently cooled and inoculated with suitable mushroom spawn. The inoculated substrate is maintained under controlled incubation and fruiting conditions by regulating temperature, humidity, ventilation and moisture. The system is suitable for cultivation of oyster, button, shiitake, cordyceps, paddy straw and other suitable mushrooms. Harvested mushrooms are subjected to cleaning, grading and hygienic packaging. The spent mushroom substrate is further utilized as organic manure, soil conditioner or composting material, thereby providing an integrated approach for agricultural waste utilization, sustainable mushroom production and additional income generation at small-scale and community-level cultivation facilities.
