Abstract: The present invention provides an integrated, automated, non-lethal crop-protection system for reducing human-wildlife conflict in agricultural fields at the forest interface. The system comprises a detection subsystem of one or more sensors that detect the approach of crop-raiding wildlife such as elephants and wild boar; a control unit that determines whether a detected event corresponds to a target animal and discriminates target animals from non-target movement, optionally by on-device image classification gating the response; a deterrent subsystem of plural non-lethal deterrent devices actuated in a varied, non-habituating sequence to repel the animal; and an alerting subsystem that notifies the cultivator, and optionally a forest authority, of the event. The system is of affordable, low-power, modular construction, is capable of solar-charged off-grid operation and is scalable to fields of varying size. It may be deployed in combination with the cultivation of wildlife-unpalatable crops to provide layered protection of farm income. By automating reliable detection and varied deterrence, and by relieving cultivators of the dangerous and unsustainable burden of nocturnal manual guarding, the system reduces crop losses and the broader costs of human-wildlife conflict without harming wildlife or people.
