Abstract: The rapid growth of modern communication networks has increased the demand for intelligent systems capable of predicting and optimizing network traffic in real time and to address this need, we propose an intelligent machine learning framework for network traffic prediction and optimization that enhances network performance, resource utilization and Quality of Service (QoS) by integrating advanced machine learning algorithms to analyse both historical and real-time network traffic data, identify traffic patterns and accurately forecast future network conditions. Based on this predictive analysis, the system dynamically optimizes bandwidth allocation, routing decisions, congestion management and load balancing to minimize latency and packet loss, while also supporting adaptive learning that enables continuous improvement in prediction accuracy and optimization efficiency. Designed to operate seamlessly across cloud, edge and software-defined networking (SDN) environments, the framework ensures scalable and energy- efficient network management and performance evaluations demonstrate that it achieves improved throughput, reduced congestion, enhanced reliability and optimized network resource utilization compared to conventional traffic management techniques. The framework is well-suited for application in 5G and 6G networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, data centres and enterprise communication systems.
