Abstract: The Intelligent Manhole Gas Safety and Human Risk Advisory System is developeu lo ensure the safety of sanitation workers by detecting hazardous gases present in manholes. Underground environments often contain toxic and combustible gases such as methane, ammonia, and carbon dioxide, which can lead to serious health risks and accidents. This system uses gas sensors (MQ-2, MQ-4, MQ-135) connected to an ESP32 microcontroller to continuously monitor gas concentrations. The collected data is analysed to determine the level of risk, and the status is displayed in real time. If unsafe conditions are detected, the system activates alerts through a buzzer and automatically triggers safety mechanisms like a ventilation fan and sprinkler system. Additionally, the system supports loT-based monitoring using the Blynk platform, enabling remote supervision and instant alerts. Overall, the proposed system provides a reliable, cost-effective, and automated solution to reduce human exposure to harmful gases and improve safety in manhole operations.
