A GitHub repository URL can be passed in as an input to the system, which automatically downloads and processes the contents of the repository, extracts and analyses important source code files, obtains information about the structure and functions of the software, and provides understandable explanations of the software components. The invention combines repository mining, code analysis, Large Language Models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic vector embedding, and knowledge retrieval mechanisms to enhance understanding of repositories and knowledge documentation. The retrieved repository knowledge is stored in a vector database, allowing for retrieval in context and ongoing knowledge building for future analyses. The system automatically generates educational and documentation artifacts such as tutorials scripts, presentation slides, architecture diagrams, dependency graphs, mind maps, call graphs, and narrated video content using the explanations generated. The invention also provides for an automated generation of datasets for use in training and fine tuning future models. Using a web-based interface, real-time processing and content delivery allow users to explore repository insights without manually inspecting code. The invention has a significant impact in reducing the time and effort needed for comprehending a software repository, developer onboarding, technical documentation production and educational content production.
