Abstract: The present invention relates to an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled autonomous monitoring system and method for preventing the spoilage of fruits and vegetables during long-distance transportation. The invention provides a compact, battery-powered monitoring device configured to accompany an individual produce batch throughout the supply chain. The device continuously monitors environmental parameters including temperature, humidity, ethylene gas, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds (VOC), ambient light, motion, and vibration using a plurality of sensors. An embedded microcontroller processes the sensed data to determine spoilage risk and stores the information in non-volatile memory. Instead of relying on continuous cellular connectivity, the device periodically scans for available open or authorized Wi-Fi networks and automatically transmits the stored transportation records, alerts, and spoilage predictions to a remote cloud platform upon establishing network connectivity.
