Abstract: An interoperable wireless inductive power transfer (IPT) system (100) for charging different battery packs, and a method for operating the same is disclosed. The system (100) comprises a transmitter inverter (102) configurable between a full-bridge configuration for supplying power corresponding to a high voltage and a half- bridge configuration for supplying power corresponding to a low voltage. A relay (104) selectively configures the transmitter inverter (102). A plurality of transmitter coil assemblies (106A, 106B) are independently activated to generate a magnetic field distribution corresponding to a receiver coupler configuration. A controller (108) determines a voltage requirement and the receiver coupler configuration, controls independent activation of one or more transmitter coil assemblies (106A, 106B), and controls operation of the relay (104) to configure the transmitter inverter (102), to enable interoperable wireless charging of different battery packs.
