MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511103049 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on October 25, 2025, for An Ion Conducting Membrane And A Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Abstract: The present invention provides an ion conducting membrane, in the form of an anion exchange membrane comprising of a polymeric membrane that includes a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane and an adduct of 4-Vinylbenzyl chloride and 3,3'- diaminobenzidine. The ion conducting membrane is further obtained by copolymerization of the dehydrohalogenated polymeric membrane with the adduct. Further, the polymeric membrane gets protonated at the amine moiety in acidic environment and resultantly exhibits improved ionic conductivity. Therefore, the present invention provides an economical, and efficient alternative to the existing hydroxide conducting membranes for fuel cell applications.
