Abstract: The present system discloses an IoT and machine learning-integrated system for real-time air quality monitoring and pollution source classification. The system utilizes distributed IoT sensor nodes equipped with particulate matter, gaseous pollutant, temperature, humidity, and GPS sensors to continuously monitor ambient environmental conditions. Sensor data are preprocessed using an edge gateway and analyzed through a novel Adaptive Multi-Sensor Air Pollution Intelligence Framework (AMSAPIF) that performs adaptive sensor fusion and dynamic confidence weighting. A hybrid machine learning engine incorporating Random Forest, XGBoost, and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models classifies pollution sources, predicts Air Quality Index (AQI), forecasts pollution trends, and identifies pollution hotspots. The processed information is visualized using GIS-enabled dashboards, while intelligent health alerts are transmitted to citizens and regulatory authorities through mobile applications and cloud platforms. Experimental evaluation demonstrates an AQI prediction accuracy of approximately 98.2%, pollution source classification accuracy of 97.8%, and a detection latency of less than 1 second, significantly outperforming existing approaches. The invention is applicable to smart cities, industrial zones, educational campuses, healthcare facilities, transportation corridors, environmental protection agencies, and urban air quality management systems.
