Abstract: The present invention discloses an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled cloud-based home automation system that enables real-time remote control and monitoring of household electrical appliances through an Android mobile application interfaced with a Google Firebase Realtime Database cloud backend. The system employs a NodeMCU ESP8266 embedded Wi-Fi microcontroller as the central processing and communication unit, which maintains a continuous Wi-Fi internet connection to the Firebase Realtime Database and controls SPDT electromagnetic relay modules connected to AC household loads including lights, fans, and other appliances. User commands issued through the MIT App Inventor-developed Android mobile application update designated nodes in the Firebase JSON database hierarchy, which are detected by the NodeMCU through real-time listener callbacks, triggering instantaneous relay actuation to switch the corresponding appliance. A dual-mode control mechanism allows simultaneous manual push-button switch control and remote mobile application cloud control, with any manual switch actuation automatically synchronized to the Firebase database to maintain real-time consistency of appliance state across all connected user devices. The system power supply converts 230V AC mains to regulated DC voltages for the embedded controller and relay modules, incorporating fuse and surge protection for residential safety. Firebase Authentication restricts cloud database access to authorized users, ensuring system security. The invention is scalable to support multiple appliances and extensible to incorporate environmental sensors, voice control integration, and energy consumption monitoring, providing a comprehensive, cost-effective, globally accessible, and energy-efficient smart home automation solution suitable for broad residential deployment.
