MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611099302 A) filed by Noida International University on August 17, 2026, for An Iot-Based Smart Irrigation System Using Soil Moisture And Weather Prediction Data.

Inventors include Puneet Kumar Yadav; and Vimal Bibhu.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an Internet of things (IoT) based smart irrigation system for automating water distribution in agricultural fields using weather prediction and real time soil moisture data. The system comprises of: soil moisture sensor (101), weather prediction module (102), microcontroller/control unit (103), solenoid valve (104), wireless communication module (105) and mobile application (106) . The weather forecast module gets the rainfall prediction data by using an API . The soil moisture sensor measures the moisture levels in the root-zone on a continuous basis and sends the values to the control unit. The control unit runs a decision- making algorithm to assess both inputs and determine if irrigation is necessary. If it is then the solenoid valve is activated and the predetermined amount of water is supplied preventing irrigation if it looks like rain. The mobile application provides the user the ability to remotely monitor field conditions, view historical patterns, and manually override automated decisions. The wireless connection module transmits all system data to a cloud server. Hence, the invention reduces water wastage, decreases manual labor and energy cost, and improves agricultural productivity with accurate weather-sensitive and self-controlled irrigation. This is particularly applicable to waterscarce areas with erratic rainfall.
