MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411089451 A) filed by Shoolini University Of Biotechnology And on November 19, 2024, for An Optimized Extraction Technique For Antioxidant And Antimicrobial Compounds From Citrus Peel.

Abstract: The present invention introduces a method for extracting bioactive compounds from various citrus peels, emphasizing their biological activities, including antioxidant, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Furthermor, this process involves drying citrus peel samples at 40-45°C, followed by crushing and solvent extraction using a Soxhlet apparatus. Moreover, the methanolic extracts obtained demonstrate significant biological activity, with pomelo peel showing the highest antibacterial effectiveness against food-borne pathogen. In overall, the optimized extraction process yields reliable and effective natural preservatives, making citrus peels valuable resources for maintaining food quality and safety.
