Abstract: A self-sustaining, multifunctional urban street furniture system integrates a circular seating unit, a central structural planter, and an automated, sensor-actuated shading and lighting mechanism within a single modular structure. A cantilevered umbrella, supported by a mild steel structural framework and embedded with photovoltaic solar panels, is deployed and retracted automatically by a motorized mechanism responsive to a motion sensor that detects the approach and departure of users. Electrical energy generated by the solar panels is stored in an on-board energy storage unit and powers LED lighting fixtures mounted on the underside of the umbrella, enabling the system to operate as an energy-efficient autonomous unit without any external electrical power supply. The circular seating structure is fabricated from a steel base clad in weather-resistant wood-polymer composite (WPC) material and surrounds a central planter that accommodates vegetation for shading, cooling, and biophilic enhancement of public spaces such as parks, campuses, and plazas.
