Abstract: Tick infestation in dogs is a persistent veterinary challenge, causing discomfort, anaemia, skin irritation, and transmission of diseases such as babesiosis and ehrlichiosis, Conventional antitick technologies rely on systemic insecticides associated with adverse effects including skin irritation, nervous system disorders, and vomiting. This study presents a safe, biocompatible anti-tick wearable tag based on an attract-and-kill mechanism. Lactic acid was encapsulated within a cyclodextrin nanosponge for controlled release, with molecular docking confirming its role as a tick attractant. The formulation was coated on a thermoplastic polyurethane substrate alongside diatomaceous earth, which provides the contact-based killing mechanism. The coated substrate was evaluated for tick attraction rate, mortality rate, coating stability under wet conditions, encapsulation efficiency, and cytotoxicity via the artemia salina lethality assay. Results demonstrated tick attraction within 15 minutes and complete mortality within 2h of exposure. FTIR analysis confirmed successful encapsulation, with an efficiency of99.5% and low cytotoxicity (0-12%). A prototype was fabricated using 3D printing technology. The tag addresses conventional limitations through a dual-action, non-systemic attract-and-kill architecture.
