MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621051222 A) filed by Parul Ajaykumar Prajapati; and Patel Bharat Hiralal on April 22, 2026, for Antimicrobial Cotton Fabric With Andrographis Paniculata Bioactive Finishing.
Inventors include Parul Ajaykumar Prajapati; and Patel Bharat Hiralal.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: A bio-functional textile article and a process for preparing the same are disclosed. The textile article comprises a woven cotton fabric body (101) having warp yarns (102) and weft yarns (103) interlaced to define a porous textile matrix between an upper fabric surface (105) and a lower fabric surface (106), with inter-yarn capillary pathways or pores (108). A single-herb phytochemical deposit derived from Andrographis paniculata is present as a surface-associated layer (110) on exposed yarn regions and within the porous textile matrix. The process comprises preparing an aqueous extract of Andrographis paniculata by water-only Soxhlet extraction, applying the extract to a pretreated cotton substrate through padding and batching, including cold pad-batch or hot pad-batch treatment, and washing and drying the treated substrate. The resulting textile exhibits antibacterial activity and improved ultraviolet protective performance and may further exhibit antifungal, antioxidant, cytocompatible, and wound-healing-associated properties.
