MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611041998 A) filed by Reliamed Innovation Private Limited on April 01, 2026, for Apparatus And Method For Padding Sternum During Surgical Procedure.
Inventor includes Rajeev Verma.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: An apparatus (100) for padding a sternum during a surgical procedure comprises an elongated tubular body (10) formed from a flexible, resilient material such as medical-grade silicone. The elongated tubular body (10) has an inner surface (12), an outer surface (14), and a substantially C-shaped cross-section. The elongated tubular body (10) comprises at least one longitudinal opening (40) extending along the length of the elongated tubular body (10). An adhesive layer (20) is disposed on the inner surface of the elongated tubular body (10), and a fluid-absorbing pad (30) is secured thereto. The longitudinal opening (40) receives adjacent patient tissue, causing the longitudinal opening (40) to close around and retain the tissue, positioning the pad in direct contact with the sternum. The outer surface (14) engages a surgical retractor blade (60) to distribute retraction forces along the body. The fluid-absorbing pad (30) expands upon fluid absorption, providing additional cushioning at the sternal interface. FIG. 1
