MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411095184 A) filed by Schneider Electric India Private Limited on December 03, 2024, for Apparatus And Method For Sensing Leakage Currents In An Electrical Line.
Inventors include Kurvey, Praveen; Purandare, Kedar; Saha, Madhushree; Varier, Sidharth; and Misra, Srishti.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus for sensing leakage currents in an electrical line. The apparatus includes a current sensor (102) with a toroidal core (122) for detecting low-level DC leakage currents and a secondary winding (104) for DC leakage detection. A high-frequency signal generator (108) modulates the core into a nonlinear zone, enabling detection of both AC and DC leakage currents. The output of the current sensor is processed by a signal processing unit (120), analyzing the interaction between the carrier signal and leakage current. A signal replicating unit (110) generates a reference signal, and a comparator (112) compares the modulated output with the reference signal, producing a deviation signal indicative of leakage current. This signal is amplified by an amplifier (114) and processed by an analog signal processor (116), triggering a trip signal to activate a circuit breaker when the threshold is exceeded.
