Abstract: ARTEMISIA NILAGIRICA THERMOSENSITIVE PERIODONTAL GEL COMPOSITION The invention relates to an Artemisia nilagirica thermosensitive periodontal gel composition configured for local delivery into periodontal pockets. The composition comprises 0.1% ethanolic extract of Artemisia nilagirica incorporated into an in situ gel matrix comprising Poloxamer 407 at 22% w/v and HPMC 100 cps at 0.5% w/v. The Artemisia nilagirica extract is prepared from dried and powdered plant material by maceration using ethanol and n-hexane, followed by filtration and extract preparation using liquid-liquid fractionation with a rotavapor. The ethanolic extract is selected after MIC and MBC evaluation against Porphyromonas gingivalis, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Prevotella intermedia. The gel is adjusted to pH 7.0 using triethanolamine and preserved using methyl paraben and propyl paraben. The prepared gel is transferred into sterilized glass vials and sealed till further use.
