Inventors include Dr. Abisha Jasmine Suganthy S; and Dr. V. Karunanithi.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses an Artificial Intelligence-based Automated Evaluation of English Academic Writing system configured to automatically evaluate academic writing using contextual, linguistic, semantic, and discourse-level analysis. The system receives an English academic writing submission together with an assignment prompt, evaluation rubric, and optional learner-level and discipline information. A contextual interpretation module converts the prompt and rubric into machine-readable evaluation requirements. A linguistic analysis module evaluates grammar, vocabulary, syntax, mechanics, and academic language characteristics, while a semantic and discourse analysis module identifies thesis statements, claims, supporting ideas, explanations, transitions, conclusions, and relationships between textual components. An artificial intelligence evaluation engine generates criterion-specific scores and an overall evaluation according to the contextual rubric. An evidence-linking module associates evaluation results with corresponding textual portions to provide explainable assessment. A confidence module determines reliability of individual evaluation results and identifies cases requiring human review. An adaptive feedback module generates personalized corrective and developmental recommendations using current evaluation results and an authorized learner writing profile. The system thereby provides context-aware, explainable, confidence-guided, and adaptive automated evaluation of English academic writing for educational assessment and continuous writing development.
