Abstract: The present invention relates to a wearable antenna system employing an Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC)-backed microslrip patch antenna for operation in the ISM band around 5.8 GHz. The antenna comprises a microstrip patch fabricated on a semiflexible dielectric substrate, preferably Rogers RT/duroid 5880, enabling suitability for onbody applications. The radiating patch incorporates at least one slot formed as a radially symmetric multi-arm star-like configuration to modify current distribution and enhance electromagnetic performance. A microstrip feed line is used to excite the radiating element, while a partial ground plane is employed to achieve compactness and improved impedance matching. An AMC structure is positioned beneath the antenna, forming a high- impedance surface that suppresses surface waves and acts as an efficient ref1ector. The AMC is implemented as a periodic array of unit cells to enhance radiation characteristics. The proposed configuration significantly reduces backward radiation toward the human body, resulting in lower Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). The antenna demonstrates improved impedance matching, low reflection coefficient, and low VSWR at the operating frequency. Additionally, an enhanced front-to-back ratio is achieved, indicating improved directional radiation. The compact and low-profile structure ensures ease of integration into wearable platforms. The integration of slot geometry and AMC structure provides a balanced trade-off between size, performance, and safety. The invention is suitable for scientific, medical, and industrial wireless applications.
