The system according to the invention comprises an optical sensor (132) configured to acquire an optical image and a processor (140) in communication with the optical sensor and configured to determine a desired X-ray image responsive to a user input or based on a subject position and/or pose with respect to the X-ray imaging system in the optical image; and determine an effectiveness of a placement of the radiation protection equipment with respect to the subject and/or the X-ray imaging system for the desired X-ray image.
