MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621081478 A) filed by Symbiosis International Deemed University on July 01, 2026, for Atraumatic Rounded-Tip Ophthalmic Instrument For Iris Claw Lens Enclavement.
Inventor includes Dr. Kanchan Bala Rathore.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT ATRAUMATIC ROUNDED-TIP OPHTHALMIC INSTRUMENT FOR IRIS CLAW LENS ENCLAVEMENT An ophthalmic surgical instrument (100) for iris claw intraocular lens enclavement comprising a handle assembly (110) with hexagonal cross-section (116) and knurled grip surface (114), a shaft (120) with primary angulation at the shaft-to-arm junction (122), an angled arm (130) with a primary downward angulation (132) of 30 to 45 degrees and a secondary lateral offset (134) of 5 to 10 degrees, and a hemispherical rounded tip (140) having a dome surface (142) with a tip diameter of 0.3 to 0.5 millimetres, mirror-polished to Ra less than 0.1 micrometres. The hemispherical tip distributes contact force over an area surface, reducing peak pressure by 10 to 20 times compared to pointed instruments, enabling atraumatic iris fold creation for claw engagement. The dual-plane angulation provides optimal paracentesis access while maintaining intraocular lens optic clearance. Constructed from single-piece medical-grade 316L stainless steel. [
