MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641118770 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology, Ramapuram Campus; and Easwari Engineering College on October 05, 2026, for Automated Handwritten Answer Script Evaluation Appliance With On-Device Multi-Agent Ai And Post-Quantum Secure Examination Management System.

Inventors include Vairamuthu M; and Dr. Sudhan M B.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: Manual evaluation of handwritten answer scripts is slow, inconsistent between evaluators, and leaves no structured digital record for Outcome-Based Education reporting or NBA/NAAC accreditation. This invention addresses that gap with an Automated Handwritten Answer Script Evaluation Appliance: a stand-alone desk-top evaluation appliance that combines a motorized document feeder, dual bidirectional CMOS sensors for simultaneous front-and-rear sheet capture in a single mechanical pass, and a neural processing unit of at least 20 TOPS running a four-agent AI evaluation pipeline. The four agents handle handwriting transcription across Devanagari, Tamil, Telugu, and Latin scripts; semantic answer matching against answer-key embeddings; threshold-based mark allocation; and independent cross-validation with a confidence score. An on-device lightweight transformer-based language model produces a short-written explanation for each sub-question mark, and a faculty touch display collects mandatory confirmation before any record is finalized. A malpractice detection sub-system checks for impersonation using handwriting style-vector cosine similarity, collusion using Jaccard token overlap, and physical page substitution using background reflectance deviation. The appliance runs entirely offline during the examination session, storing all records on an AES-256 encrypted SSD with a SHA-256 chained audit log. A companion server-deployed examination management platform vectorizes institutional course documents, generates question papers with full provenance tracing, constructs examination blueprints, produces digitally signed answer keys for transfer to the appliance, delivers spaced repetition student practice, and produces NBA/NAAC attainment reports. All documents and evaluation records are secured by a post-quantum cryptographic layer implementing ML-DSA (NIST FIPS 204) lattice-based digital signatures and ML-KEM (NIST FIPS 203) key encapsulation, protecting examination governance against future computational threats.
