MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611116379 A) filed by Chandigarh University on September 29, 2026, for Automated Iris-Shutter Dust Shield System And Method For An Air Conditioner Outdoor Unit.

Inventors include Mahi Arora; Anshika Yadav; and Jarnail Singh.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an automated iris-shutter dust shield for an outdoor unit of an air-conditioning system. The shield comprises a circular mounting frame (100), an iris shutter assembly (110) having overlapping shutter blades (120), an actuating ring (130), an actuator (140), a spring return mechanism (150), and an electrical interface (160) associated with a main circuit breaker (180). The actuator (140) opens the iris shutter when the air-conditioning system is in an ON state to permit airflow through a fan opening, while de-energization of the actuator (140) allows the spring return mechanism (150) to close the shutter. The closed shutter thereby reduces ingress of dust and other environmental contaminants into the outdoor unit.
