Abstract: An automated segregation bin system is disclosed for the real-time classification and physical sorting of waste materials at the source. The system utilizes a multi- sensor array consisting of an inductive proximity sensor for metallic waste identification and a moisture sensor for distinguishing between wet and dry waste categories. A central microcontroller unit (Arduino Uno) processes input signals from the sensors and executes a closed-loop control algorithm to determine the material type. Upon identification, the controller triggers an MG966R servo motor to actuate a rotating flap mechanism, which directs the waste into the corresponding metal, wet, or dry output bin. The invention offers a low-cost, autonomous solution for reducing contamination in recycling streams and is suitable for smart city infrastructure and residential waste management.
