Abstract: ABSTRACT AUTOMATIC PASSENGER PRESENCE INDICATOR SYSTEM FOR SLEEPER AND SEMI-SLEEPER BUSES An automatic passenger-presence indicator system for sleeper and semi-sleeper buses comprises berth sensing assemblies, each having a load-responsive sensor associated with a berth and an infrared break-beam sensor arranged across a passenger region above the berth. A controller classifies each berth as occupied when both sensors indicate presence, unoccupied when both indicate absence, and uncertain when they disagree, and flags sensor faults. Berth-identifying status data are communicated over a shared wired network, preferably an RS-485 two-wire daisy-chain, to a central processor, optionally through an I²C GPIO expander. The processor presents a colour-coded berth map on a driver-facing display and operates an audible alert according to a configured condition. An individual berth override, indicated distinctly from sensor-confirmed states, permits crew intervention during a sensor fault. The system is configured for retrofit installation without replacing the berths.
