Abstract: Umbilical systems are employed to service and monitor health of launch vehicles as part of launch preparation activities at launch pad. One such requirement is to service cryogenic Gaseous Hydrogen (GH2) at high mass flow rate. GH2 being extremely light & inflammable gas needs great care while handling. The invention presents a concept of separable fluid connection with automatic sealing device for servicing of high mass flow rate gaseous Hydrogen at cryogenic temperature, as part of a launch vehicle umbilical. The invention is a fluid system made of two separable fluid connectors assembled in distinct segments, namely flight & ground. In mated condition, the assembly allows flow of gaseous Hydrogen at high mass flow rate without significant pressure loss. The automatic sealing device gets closed with ground segment separation and acts as redundant seal for launch vehicle fluid line. The invention enables remote servicing of high mass flow rate gaseous Hydrogen with minuscule pressure drop which meets the servicing requirement at launch pad and also provides a redundant seal at the critical fluid line outlet of the propellant tank which meets the operational requirement during launch vehicle servicing.
