Abstract: An autonomous inter-vehicle communication framework for real-time road risk detection in low-connectivity environments is disclosed. The framework is an edge- based vehicle safety system that integrates driver monitoring, road perception, vehicle telemetry and inertial sensing within an embedded computing unit installed in the vehicle. Driver fatigue and distraction are estimated from facial landmark ratios, while pedestrians, vehicles and obstacles are detected from an exterior camera. A sensor fusion module time-aligns these heterogeneous signals and supplies them to a machine learning risk engine that outputs a probabilistic accident risk score and a time-to-collision estimate. The score is mapped to graded alerts delivered through audio, visual and haptic channels, together with recommended safer actions or alternative paths. A short-range wireless module broadcasts hazard messages to neighbouring equipped vehicles and incorporates their messages into the risk computation, enabling awareness of non-line-ofsight hazards without internet, cellular coverage or roadside infrastructure. All processing is performed locally, and events are logged for diagnostics and model refinement. Because every stage of the pipeline runs on the embedded unit, the framework keeps working under connectivity loss, while the decision support module recommends safer driving actions or alternative paths to the driver. The invention is suitable for new and retrofitted vehicles, including commercial, public and electric vehicles, and operates in tunnels, mountainous and remote regions.
