MUMBAI, India, Oct. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611114862 A) filed by Chandigarh University on September 25, 2026, for Autonomous Reconfigurable Drain Cleaning Crawler.

Inventor includes Amanpreet Singh.

The application for the patent was published on October 23, 2026, under issue no. 43/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an autonomous adaptive drain-cleaning crawler for inspection, detection, classification, removal, and preventive maintenance of accumulated waste in underground and roadside drainage channels. The system comprises a crawler body, traction mechanism, sensor assembly, inspection camera, control and processing unit, adaptive/reconfigurable cleaning head, waste-transfer mechanism, external waste collection unit, communication unit, power supply, and safety/recovery mechanism. The sensor assembly detects and classifies obstructions including sludge, silt, leaves, plastic, stones, organic matter, roots, and bulky debris. Based on the detected characteristics, the controller selectively deploys or reconfigures suitable cleaning elements including scrapers, brushes, grippers, cutters, augers, and suction mechanisms. Removed waste is continuously transferred through a flexible hose or conveying arrangement to an external collection unit. The system operates at predetermined or condition-based intervals, verifies cleaning effectiveness through post-cleaning inspection, and initiates additional cleaning or recovery when required, thereby reducing hazardous human entry and improving drainage maintenance efficiency.
