MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641122970 A) filed by Psna College Of Engineering And Technology on October 14, 2026, for Autonomous Under-Canopy Agricultural Platform For Mechanical Foliage Separation, Retention, Imaging And Selective Treatment.

Inventors include Dr. S. Jayachitra; Dr. S. Vijayprasath; D Deepa; T Dhanasree; and M Fathima Zeenath.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to an autonomous agricultural platform comprising a wheeled chassis (107), upward-facing camera (104), illumination source, flexible inverted-U- shaped tube (101), foliage-retaining arms (103), airflow mechanism and treatment assembly. During undercanopy movement, the tube (101) contacts and laterally displaces overlapping foliage to form an inspection opening. Displacement of movable supports actuates the arms (103) through a mechanical linkage when a predetermined condition is reached. The camera (104) captures concealed foliage regions under illumination. When image quality is insufficient, airflow is directed toward the foliage and the image is recaptured while the arms (103) remain engaged. When an acceptable image is obtained, crop condition is assessed and liquid treatment is selectively delivered through a pump and spraying nozzle. A post-treatment image is captured while the arms (103) remain engaged. The arms (103) retract before the tube (101)returns toward its original position, thereby releasing the foliage in a controlled sequence.
