MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641068281 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on May 27, 2026, for Autonomous Vehicle For Environmental Monitoring And Infrastructure Inspection.

Inventors include Soumya Ranjan Mahapatro; Saurav Gupta; Harsh Yadav; Thakur Akshayakumar Raj; Aditya Thakur; Diggiraj Singh; and Avishkar Jaiswal.

The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.

Abstract: An autonomous vehicle (100) for environmental monitoring and infrastructure inspection may include a mobility assembly (102) including a rocker-bogie suspension unit (104) to provide ground engagement across terrestrial infrastructure surfaces and to maintain stability of autonomous vehicle (100) over irregular surface zones, a buoyancy assembly (106) to provide flotation to autonomous vehicle (100) in an aquatic environment and maintain buoyant support and stability during operation, a propulsion unit (108) to propel autonomous vehicle (100) in at least one of a terrestrial mode and an aquatic mode, a sensor unit (110) to acquire data related to environmental and infrastructure conditions, and a control unit (112) operatively coupled to mobility assembly (102), buoyancy assembly (106), propulsion unit (108), and sensor unit (110), to classify an operating environment, initiate a transition sequence of the autonomous vehicle (100) between terrestrial mode and aquatic mode, adjust stability parameters of autonomous vehicle (100) during transition.
