MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641070210 A) filed by Krishna Chaitanya Mummareddy on June 04, 2026, for Banana-Sisal Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene Composite And Method Of Preparation.
Inventor includes Krishna Chaitanya Mummareddy.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a hybrid natural fiber reinforced polypropylene composite and a method for fabricating the same. The composite comprises randomly oriented banana fibers and sisal fibers dispersed within a polypropylene matrix, wherein the fibers have lengths ranging from about 10 mm to about 12 mm. The fibers constitute about 30 wt.% of the composite and the polypropylene matrix constitutes about 70 wt.%. The composite is fabricated by drying the fibers, compounding the fibers and polypropylene in a co-rotating twin screw extruder at temperatures ranging from about 125°C to about 165°C, granulating the compounded material, and injection moulding the granules. The banana-to-sisal fiber weight ratio is selected from 30:0, 20:10, 15:15, 10:20, and 0:30. The resulting hybrid natural fiber composite exhibits improved tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact resistance compared to a non-hybrid banana fiber composite, making them suitable for lightweight engineering, automotive, and semi-structural applications.
